Trauma Therapy

Trauma can leave you feeling stuck—caught between who you were before the painful experience and who you want to be now. Whether your trauma stems from childhood experiences, a difficult relationship, an accident, or a single overwhelming event, healing is possible.

At Core Connections Psychology Centre, we offer trauma therapy in person in Collingwood and Newmarket as well as virtually across Ontario, to help you make sense of what’s happened, reconnect with your emotions and body, and begin to feel safe again—both in your relationships and within yourself.

What is Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy provides a supportive and non-judgmental space to process overwhelming experiences that your mind and body haven’t yet fully integrated. Our therapists take an attachment-informed and trauma-sensitive approach, helping you understand your responses, reduce symptoms, and rebuild trust—both with others and yourself.

We don’t just focus on what happened to you, but on how those experiences are still affecting your sense of safety, connection, and identity today.

Types of Trauma We Treat:

  • We work with individuals, couples, and families coping with:

  • Childhood emotional neglect or abuse

  • Relationship trauma, betrayal, or infidelity

  • Sexual assault and boundary violations

  • Medical or birth trauma

  • PTSD and complex trauma (C-PTSD)

  • Grief, loss, and attachment injuries

  • Emotional or physical abandonment

  • Ongoing stress or vicarious trauma (common in caregivers and helping professionals)

How Trauma Shows up:

  • You may not always recognize trauma at first—it often shows up as symptoms or patterns that feel confusing or frustrating.
    Common signs include:

  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or “on edge”

  • Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares

  • People-pleasing, perfectionism, or fear of conflict

  • Difficulty trusting others or maintaining relationships

  • Anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm

  • Shame, guilt, or self-blame

  • Chronic tension, fatigue, or other body symptoms

  • Therapy helps you understand these reactions as survival responses—not personal flaws—and offers ways to move toward healing with compassion and empowerment

What Trauma Therapy Looks Like:

Healing from trauma takes courage, patience, and support. Your therapy process might include:

  • Building emotional safety and grounding skills

  • Exploring how trauma has affected your relationships and self-view

  • Gently processing painful memories at a manageable pace

  • Reconnecting with your emotions and body sensations

  • Strengthening your capacity for trust, intimacy, and joy

You set the pace. We meet you where you are, using evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs.
