Hi, I'm Zach Cochrane
People usually reach out to therapy when something isn’t sitting right anymore. Maybe stress or anxiety is always humming in the background. Maybe anger shows up faster than you want it to. Maybe you feel stuck in the same arguments with your partner, disconnected from people you care about, or unsure why things feel heavier than they should. You might not even have the words for it yet - just a sense that something needs to change.
My job isn’t to analyze you or tell you how to live. It’s to help you understand what’s going on underneath the surface so things start to make more sense. Together, we look at what you’re carrying, how you’ve learned to deal with it, and what might help you move forward in a way that actually feels right for you.
I have a particular interest in working with men and men’s mental health. Many of the men I work with have learned to push through, stay busy, or keep things inside, even when it’s taking a toll on their relationships, stress levels, or sense of self. Our work is about helping you understand what’s underneath the pressure, anger, or disconnection, and finding ways to respond that feel more solid, more intentional, and more like who you want to be - whether that’s in your relationship, family, or your own life.
Above all, I see therapy as a place where you can reconnect with yourself, your relationships, and what matters most to you. We move at a pace that feels right, with the goal of helping you leave therapy feeling more steady, more aware, and more able to move forward with confidence and clarity.
My Approach
I bring a steady presence, genuine curiosity, and deep respect for the emotional worlds people carry. I work from a person-centered place, which means your experiences, your strengths, and what matters to you guide the direction of our work. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be real — not perfect — as we explore your emotions, thoughts, and the patterns shaping your life. Therapy can be hard at times, but it can also be a place where things start to feel clearer, more grounded, and more possible.
My work is strongly informed by Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). At its core, EFT helps you understand what’s driving your reactions and patterns - why certain situations hit so deeply, why you might shut down, get defensive, or feel stuck in the same cycles. It’s especially helpful for relationship struggles, anxiety, depression, unresolved past experiences, and that sense of being disconnected from yourself or others. Alongside EFT, I draw from CBT and DBT when useful, bringing in practical strategies to help you manage stress, communicate more clearly, and handle intense emotions when they show up.
I believe therapy isn’t just about working through heavy emotions or painful experiences - it’s also about getting curious about yourself, building trust in who you are, and creating space for real growth. People often come to therapy when something feels off: stress or anxiety that won’t settle, frustration that keeps spilling into relationships, or a sense of feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Whatever life is bringing up for you, my intention is to meet you where you are, sit with you in it, and support you as you make sense of what’s happening and what you need next.
My Experience
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I also hold a Master of Education from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education from York University. With over 10 years of experience teaching in elementary public education, I also bring a nuanced understanding of the societal and cultural systems that shape development, emotions, behavior, and family dynamics.
A little bit about me ...
I’m a husband and father of two young children, roles that keep me grounded. I consider myself a lifelong learner, taking joy in exploring new ideas and holding curiosity for all things big and small. I have a wide range of interests that are admittedly harder to upkeep now that I'm a parent. Still, I try to dabble in them from time to time. When a spare moment emerges, you could find me hiking, kayaking, taking pictures, sketching, writing poetry, drumming, watching anime, gaming or becoming absorbed by just about any story in sports.
