Child Therapy
Whether your child is experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, behavioural concerns, school difficulties, or family transitions, child therapy can help.
At Core Connections Psychology Centre, we provide a safe, supportive space where children can explore their emotions, build healthy coping skills, strengthen resilience, and develop the confidence they need to navigate everyday challenges.
Helping children understand their feelings, build confidence, and thrive.
Sometimes children don't have the words to explain what's happening inside. Instead, their emotions show up through behaviour—big meltdowns, worries, acting out, withdrawal, difficulty at school, trouble sleeping, or challenges getting along with others.
At Core Connections Psychology Centre, child therapy provides a safe, supportive space where children can express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. Through conversation, play, creative activities, and relationship-based interventions, we help children make sense of their emotions, strengthen coping skills, and feel more confident navigating life's challenges.
Therapy isn't about "fixing" your child. It's about understanding what they're trying to communicate beneath the behaviour, helping them feel safe, connected, and capable.

Therapy gives children a safe place to explore their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and strengthen the relationships that help them grow.
Every child experiences the world differently. Some children can easily talk about their thoughts and feelings, while others communicate through play, movement, art, imagination, or behaviour.
Our therapists tailor each session to your child's developmental stage, personality, and unique needs. Depending on their age and goals, therapy may include traditional talk therapy, play therapy, creative activities, parent coaching, or family-based approaches.
Children often experience meaningful change when the important adults in their lives are involved. We work collaboratively with parents and caregivers, helping you better understand your child's emotional world while building practical strategies you can use at home.
Approaches we use in Child Therapy
At Core Connections Psychology Centre, we integrate a variety of evidence-based approaches, tailored to your unique needs and goals:
Play Therapy
Talk Therapy
Older children often benefit from talk therapy alongside interactive activities. We help children identify emotions, solve problems, build resilience, strengthen self-esteem, and develop practical skills for managing anxiety, sadness, anger, and everyday challenges.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
Theraplay
DDP is a relationship-focused approach that helps children heal from trauma, attachment injuries, and difficult early experiences. Therapy supports both the child and caregiver in creating safe, trusting relationships where children can begin to feel understood, accepted, and emotionally secure.
Theraplay is a playful, attachment-based approach that strengthens the connection between children and their caregivers. Through guided activities involving movement, nurturing, engagement, and shared joy, children experience increased emotional security, improved self-regulation, and stronger relationships.
We also integrate other evidence-based therapies including:
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Mindfulness-based approaches
Parent coaching and attachment-informed interventions
Together, these approaches help children develop emotional awareness, healthier coping strategies, stronger relationships, and greater confidence.
What Sessions Might Look Like
No two children are alike, so therapy is never one-size-fits-all.
One child may spend a session building with blocks while talking about friendships. Another might use art to express difficult feelings. Younger children often communicate through play, while older children may prefer conversation, games, or creative activities.
Parents and caregivers are often included throughout the therapy process. Depending on your child's needs, sessions may involve parent consultations, caregiver coaching, or family sessions that help everyone better understand and support your child's emotional development.
Our goal is to create a space where children feel safe enough to be themselves while learning new ways to understand, express, and manage their emotions.
