Hi, I'm Samantha English
Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck in the same painful cycles - especially in their relationships. You might be trying to make sense of anxiety, low mood, grief, or anger, or finding that conversations with the people you care about keep going sideways, even when you’re trying your best. Over time, this can leave you feeling guarded, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward without things blowing up or shutting down.
I’m a Registered Social Service Worker and Psychotherapist with six years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through these kinds of challenges. I pay close attention to how stress and emotional pain show up in the body - the tight chest, racing thoughts, or sense of shutting down that can happen when you feel unheard, unsafe, or alone. In our work together, we slow things down so you can feel more grounded and begin to understand what’s happening inside you and between you and the people who matter most.
Our work is collaborative and paced with care. We’ll explore your story and your relationships with curiosity and compassion, looking at the patterns that keep repeating - how you communicate, protect yourself, or reach for connection when things feel hard. Rather than blaming yourself or each other, we focus on understanding these patterns and creating space for new ways of responding that feel more honest, connected, and workable.
Therapy with me is about helping difficult moments feel less overwhelming so they no longer take over your relationships or your sense of self. By paying attention to what really matters, we work toward clearer communication, deeper understanding, and relationships that feel more secure, flexible, and alive.
My Approach
I work from the belief that our lives are shaped through relationships - how we connect with others and how we relate to ourselves. In therapy, I bring this relational lens into the room, helping you slow down, feel more grounded, and make sense of what’s happening within you and between you and others.
I draw from well-researched therapeutic approaches that support emotional awareness, nervous system regulation, and meaningful change. Our work may include exploring different parts of you, understanding the stories you carry, paying attention to emotions and body sensations, and using mindfulness or creative expression when words feel hard to find. I tailor therapy to you, meeting you where you are and working collaboratively to create change in a way that feels safe, respectful, and intentional.
I work from a variety of evidence-based models including Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Somatic Experiencing (SE) Therapy, Mindfulness, Art-Informed, and Humanistic practices.
My Experience
I’m a Registered Social Service Worker and Psychotherapist, and I began my work in this field in 2019. I’ve completed a diploma in Social Service Work, an Honours degree in Counselling Psychology, and post-graduate training in Couples and Family Therapy. I’m currently in the final year of my master’s program, finishing in the summer of 2026, and I value ongoing learning as an essential part of being a thoughtful and responsive therapist.
Over the past six years, I have supported clients who are experiencing emotional distress, relationship challenges, and the impacts of trauma. My experience includes working in both community and hospital settings with individuals struggling with substance use, survival-based coping, and mental health concerns.
What has shaped my work most is the belief that everyone has a story, and that you deserve to be the author of yours! I aim to support healing in ways that do not add shame or blame, but instead foster understanding, restoration, and connection.
A little bit about me ...
I have three small humans that take up a lot of my world - travelling to sports, school, birthday parties, events and appointments! I try and intentionally slow myself down within the busyness by playing sports, listening to music, writing spoken word, or spending time outside. I love spending time with my family creating new adventures and bringing out my forever inner child.
“Eventually everything connects - people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to quality per se.” - Charles Eames
