Hi, I'm Nicole Notarfonzo
I'm a Clinical Psychologist with 15 years of experience helping individuals, couples, adolescents and parents navigate relational and emotional challenges. Many individuals and couples find themselves struggling with painful emotions and stuck in cycles of disconnection, conflict, or emotional overwhelm. Whether it’s ongoing communication breakdowns, unresolved emotional wounds, or challenges in navigating parenting or adolescence, these issues can leave people feeling alone and unsure of how to move forward. As a clinical psychologist specializing in relational issues, I help clients deepen their emotional self awareness and develop skills to navigate these challenging emotional and relationship concerns with greater success.
My Approach
My therapy approach is warm, empathetic, and also direct. I believe that emotional presence and attunement are essential to healing, but that meaningful change also requires practical skills. In our work together, I’ll support you in unfolding your story and gaining a deeper understanding of how your personal and relational patterns have shaped your current experience. From this foundation, we’ll practice new ways of relating - to yourself, your emotions, and those close to you - so you can experience greater connection, self-confidence, compassion, and change in your inner world and relationships. I primarily draw from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), which helps deepen emotional awareness and create meaningful change in how you relate to yourself and others. Depending on your needs, I may also integrate tools from the Gottman Method, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). While much of the transformation happens within the safety and depth of the therapy session, I also believe in the power of continued practice. Clients can expect to receive tailored resources and recommendations to support growth and integration between sessions.
My Expereince
I hold a Masters of Education in Counselling from the University Alberta and a certificate in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Guelph. Over the past 15 years I have worked in the private and public sector providing psychotherapy and psychological/psychoeducational assessment to children, adolescents, adults and couples presenting with a range of clinical issues. In addition to my formal training, I have completed extensive postgraduate training in various approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, and Emotion Focused Therapy. I have received mentorship from experts in the field of Emotion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Mindful Self Compassion and regularly receive ongoing mentorship and support. I’m also passionate about providing supervision to newer therapists, supporting them in becoming more intentional, confident, and effective in their work.
A little bit about me ...
When I'm not busy seeing clients and furthering my education, I can be found listening to podcasts, hiking in nature, taking a dance class, or spending time with my husband and two young children.
