Hi, I'm Javier Becerra
I am a social worker who is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and discover joy, resilience, and meaning. I help people when they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. These struggles can show up as anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or challenges coping with life transitions. My goal is to create a supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to build the life you want. Together, we’ll explore coping strategies, skill-building, and self-awareness to foster growth, fulfillment, and connection.
My Approach
My therapy style is warm, grounded, and real. I focus on building a strong, trusting relationship where you don’t have to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or have it all figured out. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the same patterns, or unsure why certain reactions keep showing up in their lives. My role is to help you slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and find ways forward that actually fit who you are and the life you’re living.
I have a particular passion for working with men and men’s mental health. Many of the men I work with feel pressure to keep it together, push emotions aside, or handle things on their own, even when it’s costing them in their relationships, work, or sense of self. Therapy doesn’t have to be abstract or overly emotional to be effective. Our work is direct, collaborative, and grounded, with space to talk honestly about stress, anger, anxiety, relationships, identity, and the impact of past experiences in a way that feels respectful and useful.
As an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) provider, I help clients process traumatic or overwhelming experiences that still show up as anxiety, emotional reactivity, avoidance, or feeling stuck long after the events are over. Rather than repeatedly talking through the same memories, EMDR can help reduce their emotional intensity so they no longer drive your reactions or limit your choices. Alongside deeper therapeutic work, I offer practical tools and strategies to use between sessions, because meaningful change happens not just in the therapy room, but in everyday life.
My Experience
I have over a decade of frontline experience in social work and mental health, supporting individuals, families, and children in their homes, communities, and private practice. I’ve worked alongside people navigating a wide range of emotional, relational, and systemic challenges, including housing instability, barriers to accessing resources, and major life transitions. This work has given me a deep understanding of how personal experiences are shaped by broader social systems, and how resilience and growth can emerge even in the midst of difficult circumstances. These experiences have shaped a practical, compassionate approach that helps clients understand how past experiences continue to affect them today - emotionally, physically, and in their relationships - and how to respond differently with more clarity, steadiness, and self-respect.
I draw from evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, narrative therapy, and trauma-informed care, always applied in a way that is compassionate, practical, and tailored to each person’s unique situation. I am committed to helping clients recognize their strengths, develop resilience, and create meaningful strategies for lasting change in both their daily lives and long-term goals.
A little bit about me ...
Outside of work, I’m a husband, and a father of two little ones, which keeps life exciting, unpredictable, and full of perspective! I enjoy staying active, whether that’s training for a marathon or finding new ways to challenge myself physically and mentally. I also love seeing the world through my children’s eyes and finding joy in everyday moments with family.
