Hi, I'm Alix Cowie
I am a Psychologist with over a 15 years of experience helping individuals and couples navigate relational, emotional, and life challenges. Many people find themselves feeling stuck in patterns of disconnection, conflict, self-criticism, or overwhelm. Sometimes these struggles stem from unresolved emotional injuries, ongoing communication breakdowns, or a sense of being “off track” in life or relationships. These moments can leave you feeling alone, discouraged, and unsure of how to move forward. As a psychologist specializing in relationships - both with yourself and others - I help clients deepen their emotional self-understanding and develop the tools to navigate challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and connection.
My Approach
My therapy style is warm, collaborative, and genuine. I believe that real change comes from a combination of emotional safety, attunement, and practical strategies. In our work together, I’ll help you explore the experiences, patterns, and beliefs that have shaped your life so far, while also supporting you in practicing new ways of relating—to your emotions, to yourself, and to the people you care about. My goal is for you to experience meaningful shifts in connection, self-confidence, and compassion, both in your inner world and in your relationships.
I draw from evidence-based approaches including Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Gottman Method and Mindful Self-Compassion. I work with in attachment and trauma-informed lens grounded in the belief that healing happens when we feel truly understood, safe, seen and supported. While therapy sessions offer the depth needed for change, I alsoI often offer tailored resources and practices so growth continues between sessions - because healing is as much about the work you do in your everyday life as it is about what happens in the therapy room.
My Expereince
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and have worked in the mental health field since 2006. For almost 20 years, I’ve supported individuals, couples, and families through life’s more complex and tender challenges. My training includes extensive supervision in Emotion-Focused Therapy with leaders in the field. I have also received advanced training in more complex couples issues such as emotional injuries, childhood trauma, ADHD impacted couples, and sexual disconnection.
I am a certified Emotion Focused Therapist and Supervisor with the International Society of Emotion Focused Therapy (ISEFT) and I serve as a skills facilitator for Emotion-Focused Therapy- Couples trainings in Toronto, Ontario. I am passionate about training and mentoring the next generation of practitioners to help them grow into confident, compassionate therapists who work with clarity, skill, and heart.
A little bit about me ...
I have three young children that take up most of my free time! I enjoy being active in the outdoors with my family - paddleboarding, mountain biking, hiking, and most of all exploring and travelling. I am training for my first 10k run this year and hope this will be the first of many to come!
